Slip resistance - what’s it all mean?

When it comes to the building site, one of the most important factors for a successful project is safety, and during construction - prevention is the only cure! Any safety plan should employ a risk management approach. And according to industry reports, the highest risk is flooring.

In 2006, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) commissioned a study to identify health and safety risks in buildings. The study found the slips, trips, and falls accounted for the greatest risk to health and safety. Recently, the ABCB released the findings of a more detailed study that was undertaken by the Monash University Accident Centre (MUARC). One recommendation of the MUARC is for the flooring manufacturers to provide comparative information on slip resistance for their products.

Contemporary architectural flooring materials in many cases are not ideal surfaces for construction sites, particularly when dust or dirt is strewn across the surface!
